Canvas Gets Upgraded: Code Execution, Collaborative Editing, and More
OpenAI has added exciting features to the Canvas interface:

- Quick Copy-Paste: Move text or code into your workspace more easily.
- Custom GPT Support: Use collaborative chatbots for specialized tasks.
- Python Code Execution: Write, test, and debug Python code directly in Canvas. ChatGPT even helps fix bugs based on console errors. Paste a Python script, run it, and fix errors with ChatGPT’s guidance.
Who Can Use It?
The updated Canvas is now available to everyone, even free-tier users. You can access it on the web or through the ChatGPT desktop app for Windows. Mac support is coming soon.

These updates show OpenAI’s shift toward being a toolmaker rather than just a model provider. And fair enough, they can see how many people are trying to use chatGPT for programming, I use it everyday, including the canvas interface. Which is not perfectly handy, but still very helpful, and of course more and more people will be drawn into this way of writing code, and into the craft itself, because tools like these signigicantly lower the barrier.
Whether you think this is great or troubling, we can't stop it, so we must adapt.

Meanwhile,

Whether it was the new canvas update that broke it or something else, remains a mystery.
Checked up on Claude (someone on X wrote it was also down) - it's doing fine.
