Mistral AI launches Mistral Large & Le Chat

Mistral AI, a fresh French startup, is making some serious waves with their new high-powered AI model and chatbot. They're gunning to challenge the big dogs like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. These folks from Paris are in the spotlight now, introducing their heavyweight champ, Mistral Large, to duke it out with the top contenders in the large-language model scene. They've also launched a beta for "Le Chat," their version of ChatGPT, aiming to grab a slice of the chatbot market.
Mistral Large is the cream of the crop for Mistral AI's tech, geared towards developers and businesses with flexible deployment options, whether in the cloud or on-site. It's snagged the runner-up spot on the global LLM leaderboard, just behind ChatGPT in precision and performance. Mistral AI is boasting that Mistral Large leads the pack with its advanced cognitive skills and has earned its spot as the second-best model globally available via API, right behind GPT-4.
With a hefty 32K token capacity—over 20,000 English words—Mistral Large impresses with its multilingual fluency in English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian, and it gets the nuances of each language. They’re pitching this model as perfect for intricate tasks that need a heavy cognitive load or niche expertise, producing outputs that are clear, valuable, and unbiased, with customizable moderation settings.
Mistral Large is also a speed demon with its stellar speed-to-efficiency ratio, making it a nimble and efficient AI solution. Mistral is the second entity, after OpenAI, to provide a commercial language model on Azure. Arthur Mensch, the CEO of Mistral AI, said, "We are thrilled to embark on this partnership with Microsoft."

You can try the new chat yourself here https://chat.mistral.ai/
Upon registering and signing in, you're landing at https://console.mistral.ai/ which is not chat, so then just open https://chat.mistral.ai/ URL again and you'll see the chatbot interface. Le Chat, like ChatGPT3, lives offline, and its information database is current up to 2021.
Ok, so I've tried my first prompts with the Large model on Le Chat, and the first impression is 'it has potential'. Appeared to be a fraction quicker than ChatGPT4, but the answer it gave was not as sharp. Clearly missed the context of the question. If someone is asking "Define in simple terms what are LLMs, AI, AGI?" they're probably talking about AI related subject, not a law degree.
Later on, I've used it again, this time for the simple task of generating some HTML. Results were quick and just what I had in mind:
You can join the Discord channel of the Mistral community https://discord.com/invite/mistralai if you’re up to some hot discussions on Le Chat as well as other models because people will always compare them.
Mistral AI's is a significant evolution within the European AI domain, and we're looking forward to the improvements of the model.
