GAC Unveils GoMate: A Flexible and Energy-Efficient Humanoid Robot

Chinese automaker Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. (GAC) revealed its third-gen humanoid robot, GoMate, on December 26, 2024, at the China Robotics Network Annual Conference in Shanghai.

GoMate stands out with its switchable wheel-foot design. It moves on four wheels to climb stairs or handle tough terrain at 1.4 meters tall. When shifting to two wheels, it reaches 1.75 meters, becoming sleeker and more efficient.

With 38 degrees of freedom, it’s got great dexterity and can handle heavy loads, making it useful in different industries. Powered by GAC’s solid-state battery, it runs up to six hours straight and uses 80% less energy than similar robots.

GAC plans to use GoMate in fields like logistics, security, healthcare, and education. The company targets small-scale production by 2026, with full-scale manufacturing to follow. They’re also testing its parts on production lines for GAC Trumpchi and AION.

So far, the robot’s only been shown through digital presentations, but GAC has big plans for its future. GoMate signals an exciting step forward for GAC in intelligent robotics.
